Skyhook Geospatial Insights (GI) provides location based insights for businesses to make more educated decisions in order to gain a competitive advantage. In our first blog about GI, we talk about some of the applications of location insights in today's world. This technical product blog explains the components of GI and the output the product provides to our customers.

GI consists of six sub-categories, as listed below:

Behavioral

Behavioral Insights include our Personas products and segmentations. Using our proprietary data scrubbing techniques we are able to associate device behaviors to multiple, real-world locations and activities. These decorated device profiles provide insights into the behaviors of device users and allow for several unique use cases. This data set can be generated on your location data, or our index can be used to find more general insights.

Use cases:

  • Targeting
  • Industry Analysis
  • Market Insights

Example output:

Measuring the intersection of devices and venues:

Tiled Device Estimation (TIDE)

TIDE provides simple counts of mobile devices sourced from the Skyhook ecosystem. Inputs to the system include: Skyhook SDKs and APIs, bidstream data, and our Reverse Geo data. These are bundled into approximately 100x100 meter tiles in hourly increments. This data helps analysts and developers who are often frustrated by the lack of globally standardized, high resolution activity data.

Use Cases:

To date this artifact has been captured, standardized, de-personalized and licensed commercially to analysts and developers for use in:

  • Crowd Detection and Estimation
  • Cohort or Competitor Analysis
  • Public Safety
  • Network Buildout Modeling
  • Facility Siting
  • Asset Vulnerability Evaluation

Hyperlocal IP

Skyhook Hyperlocal IP provides location for mobile and stationary devices based on field-detected IP addresses. Unlike other IP address location systems, Skyhook uses an empirical sampling of where devices actually are to build the best IP location database available. Using Skyhook's patented hybrid precision location system for mobile devices, deployed on tens of millions of mobile devices worldwide, Skyhook samples the location of devices using GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell towers, and associates those locations with the IP address of the device.

Use Cases:

  • Content Targeting for Ad Networks and Websites
  • Network Security
  • Device Security

Access Point and Cell Data

Skyhook maintains a vast data set of Wi-Fi access points and cell locations, which provides details  such as MAC addresses, latitudes, and longitudes. These components can be delivered as point locations or summarized in a tiled format. This product can also be segmented and disaggregated based on Organizational Unique Identifiers (OUIs), deployment patterns, or other combinations as needed.

Use Cases:

  • Wi-Fi or Cell industry analysis
  • In-house location services
  • Change detection following power outages, natural disasters

Outputs can vary significantly depending on need. Please email us for further specifics.
