Android travel application integrates Skyhook's positioning for better location
BOSTON, MA - April 15, 2009 - Skyhook Wireless, provider of the patented Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) and the hybrid location system XPS, today announced integration of Skyhook onto CRG Studios' PinPoint Locations app for Android.
PinPoint Locations is a mobile travel app that uses location to create bookmarks of your favorite waypoints, and then uses a compass to get you back to them. It is a useful memory tool for everyone who travels, from the active globetrotter to the on-the-go city dweller.
"Because people rely on my app to find their way back to bookmarked spots, it is essential that location is completely accurate. Native Android location is not satisfactory, and only Skyhook can ensure that users are not left lost or confused," said Colin Godsey, lead software engineer for CRG.
"We are seeing more and more interest from Android developers as they get familiar with the platform," said Kate Imbach, director of marketing at Skyhook Wireless. "PinPoint Locations is yet another Android app that has deployed Skyhook for better location."
PinPoint Locations can be downloaded today in the Android Marketplace. Skyhook Wireless offers a publicly available SDK for Android developers, available here: http://developer.skyhookwireless.com/.
