IBM Watson gained fame a few years ago when it beat all-time champion Ken Jennings on Jeopardy.  Since then, Watson's cognitive abilities have become even more robust, branching out into multiple specialty areas, including Internet of Things (IoT).  As a logical next step in our ongoing partnership with IBM Watson, Skyhook is proud to announce that Precision Location is now available via IBM Bluemix, making it even easier for our joint customers to create innovative IoT solutions.

A Look at Crowd Density During the Solar Eclipse

The first US solar eclipse since 1979 occurred this past Monday, August 21st and it was the only one to span the country coast to coast since 1918. In our last blog post, we mentioned that the eclipse was partially viewable across most of the US. As USA Today mentioned, the journey in which the moon's shadow swept across the Earth's surface crossed parts of 12 states that made up the path of totality from west to east: Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Solar Eclipse Crowd Density Predictions

The first solar eclipse since 1979 will be taking place on Monday, August 21st. This marks the first time in history that the solar eclipse will only be visible in the United States and the first time since 1918 that a solar eclipse will be visible from coast to coast.

As a recent CNBC article discussed, the wearables industry today looks markedly different from what industry experts had been predicting it would be a few years ago. Well known wearable brands such as Jawbone and Fitbit have taken severe financial hits in recent months, and consumers’ fickle attention spans have resulted in lower device usage overall. But the cries about the wearables industry being dead seem premature at this point. In fact, the IDC still predicts that the wearables market will grow 20% this year.
