Skyhook Wireless Tracking Location Based iPhone Apps

At Skyhook we’ve been busy tracking every location based iPhone App Store app manually. Some interesting facts that you won’t find anywhere else:

There are currently 300 location-aware apps in the App Store. In September, and average of 5.5 location apps were released in the App Store every day. And as of 9/22/08, 65% of location apps are paid. The leading application category to use location is Local Search, with total location-aware 57 apps.

Skyhook Enables NetworkLocation

This week Winnipeg-based Centrix launched a Skyhook-enabled version of the Mac OS X app, NetworkLocation. This app eliminates the routine of setting up our laptops every time we change location. You can preset NetworkLocation to lower your volume at the library, put up an iChat message at home, connect to the right printer at work, and lots more. Check it out for a nice example of how location can improve app functionality on the desktop.

With marketing and PR outreach help from Skyhook Wireless, Network Location has been covered in popular blogs like TUAW and Wired. Download the Skyhook SDK to get started on your own app, and for help with publicity email us at developers at skyhookwireless dot com.
