The Travel category had a large increase of almost 100 new applications with the introduction of the Travel To series. Travel To is powered by WikiTravel, developed by Molinker Inc., and edited by travelers all over the world reviewing the best places to shop, eat, and dine, how to get around, and even which places to avoid. There are a wide variety of cities all over the world that these applications cover, with new cities being added every day.
MyATM is typical of other local search applications that find the closest bank to your current location, but what makes it unique is the option to preset a specific branch of bank and then have it only locate those that fit into that category. This is useful for weeding out the options the user is not interested in and the preset can be changed for up to 20 major bank chains in the United States. The user can also link directly to online banking from the ATM results page. Pet Services Finder is the all inclusive app for locating any type of service for pet needs. Based on current location, Pet Services Finder will locate the closest vet, pet store, dog park, groomer, dog walker etc.
Foursquare goes beyond traditional location-based social apps. It’s a nightlife game where the user receives points for being out every night of the week, the first to visit a new bar, or adding new information about clubs, restaurants, and pubs. The application mixes in reviews from Google and Yelp and is available in 12 major U.S. cities. Incorporating the game aspect into the application gives it a competitive edge over other social networking applications because there is a reward to opening and utilizing the application every time the user is in a new spot.
