Eye-Fi

Digital camera manufacturers have begun to release cameras with Wi-Fi and GPS hardware resident on the device. These capabilities enable file transfer and geo-tagging photos on new devices, but there are millions already in the hands of consumers without this hardware.

Eye-Fi, provider of wireless memory cards for digital cameras, recognized an opportunity to partner with Skyhook to create an inexpensive and easy way to enable geo-tagging photos without native Wi-Fi hardware. This solution would also eliminate the need for cumbersome and expensive external GPS hardware.

Eye-Fi developed Eye-Film, a combination 2GB storage, Wi-Fi and WPS-enabled card that works in the SD slot of almost any digital camera. With Eye-Film, users can geo-tag any photo, store it on their camera and then transmit it via Wi-Fi to a laptop or any photo sharing website.
