Kijiten Adds Skyhook Wireless Location to Where is My Android App
Android device recovery app integrates Skyhook's positioning for better location
BOSTON, MA - July 14, 2009- Skyhook Wireless®, provider of the patented Wi-Fi Positioning System (WPS) and the hybrid location system XPS, today announced announced a partnership with French-based company Kijiten on its Where is My Android (WIMA) app.
WIMA provides a mobile phone geolocation system that allows users to follow in real time their lost or stolen mobile phone on Google Maps wherever they are, even if they can't use the internet. Version 1.0 also permits the control of the phone from the company's website: a user can make the phone automatically take photos and record sounds of its surrounding area.
Skyhook integration now permits WIMA users to track their device indoors (which is impossible with a basic GPS system) with a 10 to 20 meters accuracy. In this way, the user has a better chance of finding his or her phone, and thus recovery occurs quickly.
"I'm very enthusiastic to announce our partnership with Skyhook Wireless," said Daniel Cordier, CEO at Kijiten. "WIMA now using Skyhook XPS technology allows our customers to enjoy the best geolocation system on the mobile phone market. Even if it's outside or indoors, you can track with a very high accuracy and give instructions to your phone from the internet."
"WIMA is another example of an Android app that requires better positioning than that offered by the native Android platform," said Kate Imbach, director of marketing and developer programs at Skyhook Wireless. "It is extremely important for an asset recovery app to provide accurate and fast location, as users rely on them for everyday business and personal use."
Where is My Android can be downloaded today in the Android Marketplace. Skyhook Wireless offers a publicly available SDK for Android developers, available here: www.skyhookwireless.com/developers/sdk.php.
