SOFTBANK MOBILE TO EMBED SKYHOOK'S LOCATION ENGINE IN UPCOMING FEMTOCELL BASE STATIONS

Accurate location information to facilitate more efficient deployment and open new opportunities for location based services

Boston, MA - September 27, 2011 - Skyhook, the leader in location positioning, context and intelligence, today announced that Skyhook's location technology will be embedded in upcoming Softbank Mobile femtocell devices.

SoftBank Mobile, a leading mobile operator in Japan, is extending the coverage and capabilities of its advanced cellular network by deploying femtocells, or “small-radius” cellular base stations, in homes and businesses across Japan. These femtocells extend cellular and Wi-Fi coverage both in rural areas and in urban environments that have cellular interference.

In May 2010, Softbank Mobile launched the first free femtocell offer. In order to properly manage this network expansion, SoftBank Mobile needs to be able to accurately identify the precise location of these devices. Knowing the devices' location will increase efficiency in installation, maintenance and service which will increase customer satisfaction.
