The advancements in Internet of Things have changed the game for asset tracking.  Previously, larger assets like delivery trucks and airplanes have been easily tracked using Assisted Global Navigational Satellite System (A-GNSS) technology, but what about smaller “things” like the packages within those delivery trucks?  

Skyhook and IBM Watson have joined forces to show that now it’s possible to not only track and monitor the location of smaller assets, but to get the bird’s eye view of a fleet of devices by collecting and analyzing embedded sensor data.

Skyhook is partnering up with Sharp to provide accurate location in their new mobile robot phone, RoBoHoN. There's not much RoBoHoN can't do. Standing just under 8in tall, his voice activation allows him to help in the office and kitchen. You can talk, make actions, or express feelings with him.

IoT World: Unlocking the Value of Manufacturing

Manufacturing and factories are predicted to be the biggest area for growth for IoT by 2025, according to leading industry analysts. In fact, Mckinsey predicts that factories alone will produce between $1.2T - $3.7T in revenue by 2025.


These are some sizeable goals, so I was curious to hear how the industry was advancing in real-life examples and to see if there was substance behind the hype. I attended a number of industry sessions at IoT World in Santa Clara that helped give some insight into specific use cases as well as challenges and triumphs the industry is facing and overcome.
